Acupuncture for General Veterinary Practice

Abstract: ABSTRACT. Since the International Society of Veterinary Acupuncture (IVAS) was founded in 1974, acupuncture (AP) has received greater acceptance by veterinary professionals throughout the world. This article introduces some important animal diseases that respond well to AP therapy. “…Tem sido observado o aumento da investigação científica sobre a eficácia e os mecanismos de ação da acupuntura, que não ocorre somente no âmbito do tratamento das algias, mas também em diferentes áreas da medicina, com metodologia bastante rigorosa e alcançando publicação em revistas de destaque, colocando a acupuntura como recurso terapêutico respaldado por evidências científicas (HALTRECHT, 1999;LIN, 2008 Os mecanismos pelos quais a acupuntura atua são múltiplos, muitos dos quais desconhecidos (CHAN et al, 2001), mas geralmente atribui-se a ação da acupuntura à relação que existe entre o PCA, o sistema neuroendócrino e o controle da dor (SMITH, 1992), demonstrando-se que a acupuntura atua na estimulação de terminações nervosas, aliviando dores (crônicas ou agudas), tanto no local do estímulo, quanto à distância.
