The dynamics of biomass accumulation at different seasons of the year is of vital importance in the production of a forage species. In this study nonlinear models (logistic and gompertz) to describe growth dynamics of plants based on dry matter yield of Brachiaria hybrid Cayman at different interval between cuts in drought season were used. Results for logistic and gompertz model showed an excellent fit to the data set of accumulated dry matter with a R 2 close to 1.0. In the dry season the best fitted model to estimate the cumulative dry matter yield was gompertz model. It is possible suggest logistic model use in drought conditions. The empirical distribution of the estimated intrinsic growth rate (K) was symmetric and leptokurtic for the logistic and gompertz model in the intervals (-0.0141; 0.2071 Kg MS ha 1 ) and -0.00086; 0.724986 Kg MS ha 1 ), respectively and the empirical distribution of the asymptotic accumulated dry matter yield (B) was asymmetric for the logistic and gompertz models in the intervals (4373; 16980 Kg MS ha 1 ) and (9840; 26654 Kg MS ha 1 ), respectively. The empirical distribution of these two parameters reflects the fact that the accumulated dry matter production of this grass is strongly related to the distribution of rainfall, especially in the tropical dry forest. The nitrogen fertilization, interval between cuts, intrinsic growth rate of B. hybrid Cayman as well as other factors affect this species development determine dry matter yield sustainability.

Objective: To evaluate the productive behavior of Urochloa hybrids, depending on the regrowth age. Design/Methodology/Approach: The study was carried out under rainfed conditions during 2018. The Cayman, Mulato II, Convert 330, Cobra, Camello I, and Camello II hybrids were evaluated based on the regrowth age (2, 4, 6, 8, and 10 weeks). The following variables were evaluated: plant height (PH), total dry matter (TDM) yield, dry matter per leaf (DMl) yield, dry matter per stem (DMs) yield, crude protein content (CP), acid detergent fiber (ADF), and neutral detergent fiber (NDF). The data obtained were evaluated by means of a randomized complete block design with three repetitions, divided into plots: a large plot for the cultivars and small plot for the regrowth ages. Results: The Camello II cultivar obtained the highest TDM yields during the sixth and eighth weeks (4.15 and 6.35 t DM ha-1, respectively); however, during the tenth week, the yield was equal to the yield obtained with the Mulato II and Cayman cultivars (p<0.05). The highest DMl yield was obtained by the Mulato II cultivar during the sixth, eighth, and tenth weeks (3.37, 4.56, and 3.86 t DM ha-1, respectively). The Mulato II cultivar recorded the highest CP values during the second and fourth weeks (158 and 126 g kg-1, respectively); however, the Camello II cultivar obtained the highest CP values during the sixth, eighth, and tenth weeks (99, 95, and 87 g kg-1, respectively). The NDF and ADF values increased as the regrowth age increased: in the tenth week, the Camello II and Cobra cultivars obtained the highest NDF values, while the Camello II cultivar recorded the highest ADF value during the same period. Study Limitations/Implications: Urochloa cultivars were developed for their establishment in humid tropical conditions, where their productive performance is greater. However, in dry tropical conditions, the Cayman, Mulato II, and Cobra cultivars have had a better performance than other grasses —such as buffel grass (Pennisetum ciliare), which is used to feed ruminants. In this sense, other Urochloa cultivars (e.g., Camello I and Camello II), which have greater tolerance to droughts, show desirable forage characteristics, such as yield and forage quality. Findings/Conclusions: The cultivars with the best productive performance were Camello II, Mulato II, and Cayman.

Las especies arbóreas se utilizan para mejorar la nutrición de rumiantes y Moringa oleifera, puede ser una alternativa de alimentación, por el forraje de alto valor nutritivo. Sin embargo, los arreglos topológicos modifican la estructura de la planta y en consecuencia el valor nutritivo. Por tanto, se evaluó el efecto de diferentes densidades de población (D50, D100 y D200 para 50, 100 y 200 mil plantas ha-1, respectivamente) y cinco cortes cada 28 días sobre las características morfológicas de Moringa oleifera, bajo un diseño de bloques completos al azar con arreglo en parcelas divididas y tres repeticiones, en condiciones de temporal y durante el periodo de julio a noviembre de 2017. Las variables evaluadas fueron: altura de rebrote (AR), diámetro basal de planta (DBP), número de ramas (NRP), contenido relativo de clorofila (CRC), índice de área foliar (IAF) y área foliar especifica (AFE). Los resultados indicaron que no hubo interacción (p> 0.05) entre las densidades de población y cortes. Se observó que los valores de AR, DBP y NRP disminuyeron (p≤ 0.05) al incrementar la densidad de plantas; caso contrario sucedió con IAF y AFE. El CRC fue similar (p> 0.05) en todas las densidades evaluadas. En conclusión, al aumentar la densidad de población de moringa de D50 a D200 afectó de manera negativa los componentes morfológicos aéreos de las plantas, principalmente el tallo, el cual influyó sobre la cantidad y dimensiones de ramas.
