Abstract:A crowd of nonequilibrium entities can show phase transition behaviours that are prohibited in conventional equilibrium setups. One of the simplest and well-studied phenomena observed in such active matter is the motility-induced phase separation (MIPS), where self-propelled particles spontaneously aggregate. An interesting question is whether a similar activity-driven phase transition occurs in a pure quantum system. Here we introduce a non-Hermitian quantum many-body model that undergoes quantum phase transi… Show more

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
