Activity Coefficients at Infinite Dilution of Alkanes, Alkenes, and Alkyl Benzenes in 1-Butyl-3-methylimidazolium Trifluoromethanesulfonate Using Gas−Liquid Chromatography

Abstract: Activity coefficients at infinite dilution γ i ∞ have been measured for 17 organic solutessalkanes, alkenes, and alkyl benzenessin the ionic liquid 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium trifluoromethanesulfonate ([BMIM][CF 3 SO 3 ]) by the gas-liquid chromatographic method with the ionic liquid as the stationary phase. The measurements were carried out from (303.15 to 363.15) K. The partial molar excess enthalpies at infinite dilution H i E,∞ of the solutes in the ionic liquid were also derived from the temperature depe… Show more

“…We found Tables 7-9 list selectivity values for the alkane/alcohol, alkane/ polar compound and aliphatic/aromatic compound separation. Table 10 summarizes the selectivity values for hexane/benzene, hexane/methanol and hexane/2-pentanone separation at T = 323 K. These values were compared with similar values in the literature [1,3,16,20,[37][38][39][40][41][42]. Selectivity values in [C 9 (2MNPTpy) 2 ][(NTf 2 ) 2 ] for separation of the alkanes and polar compounds were found to be greater than those of alkane and alcohol.…”
