Activities of phosphorus in liquid copper by solid oxide galvanic cell

Abstract: The oxygen partial pressures of the equilibrium among solid magnesia, phosphorus-containing liquid copper and trimagnesium phosphate were measured by means of solid-oxide galvanic cells. These cells incorporated magnesia-stabilized zirconia as solid electrolyte and Mo +Mo0 2 as reference electrode at 1473,1 523 and 1 573 K.Then the activities of phosphorus in liquid copper, and the free energy of dissolution of diatomic phosphorus gas into liquid copper at infinite dilution refered to 1 wt. pet. were determine… Show more

“…The oxygen activity, hO, is estimated with equation (4) using the experimental oxygen and manganese contents. Then, the value of pO 2(copper) can also be calculated using equation (12). Figure 6 shows the effects of temperature and the reaction time on the pO 2(copper) in the liquid copper with 0.2 mass % initial manganese content.…”

“…In this study, the pressure of P 2 in the cell was fixed at the pressure in equilibrium with P in Cu-P alloy instead of control of oxygen potential in the cell. The P content of this alloy was 1.37 mass pct, and the pressure of P 2 in equilibrium with this alloy was calculated from the following data: [18] …”
