Interestingly, lower nadir CD4 levels have been associated with decreased subcortical GMV, and the greater the disparity between nadir CD4 and current normal CD4 counts, the worse the structural integrity of the brain ( Jernigan et al, 2011 , Martín-Bejarano García et al, 2021 , Nir et al, 2021 ).
