Actively mode-locked fiber lasers for high speed telecommunication systems

Abstract

We investigate the behaviors of the lasers when the birefringence is introduced into the cavity. Pulses with dual polarization states are generated and polarization switching of the mode-locked pulses is observed. Pulse drop out and sub-harmonic mode locking due to mode competition are also reported.
