Active speed role in opinion formation of interacting moving agents

Abstract: We propose a general non-linear analytical framework to study the evolution of the opinion state of a population of moving individuals. This novel scheme allows us to study a broad range of social phenomena, like, for example, the influence of agent interaction dynamics in the opinion formation or the inclusion of different individual's idiosyncrasies. We consider societies composed by agents who adopt one of the n possible opinions or internal states. The opinion state may only be modified while the agent kee… Show more

“…The dynamics of social contacts due to agent mobility represents an important element to model the spreading of ideas or opinions. It was already shown their relevance in the outcome of an epidemic disease [6], and also in the transmission of opinions [18]. Indeed, we have found that ideas spreading through social contacts are strongly influenced by mobility.…”

“…In this work we extend the framework presented previ-ously by Terranova et al [18], to study the opinion evolution of a community, when the opinion state is not only ruled by agent interactions but also by external stimuli. Carletti et al [19] introduced the concept of propaganda as an opinion attractor to the agents close in the opinion space.…”

“…The mechanisms of persuasion and compromise have been implemented in several works to model opinion formation in interacting populations. On the one hand, persuasion have recently been introduced in some agent-based models [15,16,17,18]. For instance, persuasion was used in Refs.…”

“…Besides, persuasion was used in recent works [16,17] as a degree of a person's self-conviction, where in addition to the influence from others, a person takes into account its own opinion when making a decision. Also, persuasion between opposite-orientation agents was recently studied in [15]. However, we understand that the mechanism of strengthening of opinions due to same-orientation interactions has not been investigated within an interacting particle model.…”
