Active power filters for line conditioning: a critical evaluation

Abstract: This paper presents a critical analysis of various topologies for power circuits used in power line conditioners designed to attenuate or remove disturbances in the electric power system. By defining a series of merit figures, it becomes possible to appraise the desirable qualities shown by the technical and economical aspects in each configuration. There is also a description of the basic lines for designing practical equipment. Finally, experimental results of a novel topology which reconfigurates to UPS ope… Show more

“…Although the cost could seem to increase due to the more complex topology and control and to the higher number of semiconductors needed, others factor related to cost should be taken into account: decrease in losses and so decrease in the size of the aluminium radiator, possibility of using ferromagnetic core inductors for filtering the greater fraction of the current (this inductors are about 30% less expensive than air core inductors [14]), possibility of using slower semiconductors (so cheaper devices) for the greater current fraction, and using lower rating high frequency semiconductors (because they operate with a lower current fraction). …”

“…Для боротьби з наведеним вище явищем доцільно використовувати фільтро-компенсуючі перетворювачі (ФКП) паралельного типу [1][2][3][4]. Водночас, схемотехніка таких компенсаторів дозволяє, при додаванні системи заряду/розряду акумулятора, використовувати їх як джерело безперебійного живлення.…”

“…To alleviate above-specified issues can be accomplished with the help of Active-Power Filter (APF) which is integrated to system as parallel or series form. The performance of APF is basically relies on estimation of reference current signals which plays a key role in compensation scheme [4]- [6]. Some of well-known DC-link voltage management and reference current estimation methods are explored in Instantaneous Real-Reactive Power theory (IRPT),Synchronous Reference Frame theory (SRFT), etc., [7]- [9].…”
