Esta es la versión de autor de la comunicación de congreso publicada en: This is an author produced version of a paper published in: AbstractOrganisations need diverse information systems to deal with the increasing requirements in information storage and processing, yielding the creation of information islands and therefore an intrinsic difficulty to obtain a global view. Being able to provide such an unified view of the -likely heterogeneous-information available in an organisation is a goal that provides added-value to the information systems and has been subject of intense research. In this paper we present an extension of a solution named Searchy, an agent-based mediator system specialized in data extraction and integration. Through the use of a set of wrappers, it integrates information from arbitrary sources and semantically translates them according to a mediated scheme. Searchy is actually a domain-independent wrapper container that ease wrapper development, providing, for example, semantic mapping. The extension of Searchy proposed in this paper introduces an evolutionary wrapper that is able to evolve wrappers using regular expressions. To achieve this, a Genetic Algorithm (GA) is used to learn a regex able to extract a set of positive samples while rejects a set of negative samples.

Abstract. We present a general framework for the task of extracting specific information "on demand" from a large corpus such as the Web under resource-constraints. Given a database with missing or uncertain information, the proposed system automatically formulates queries, issues them to a search interface, selects a subset of the documents, extracts the required information from them, and fills the missing values in the original database. We also exploit inherent dependency within the data to obtain useful information with fewer computational resources. We build such a system in the citation database domain that extracts the missing publication years using limited resources from the Web. We discuss a probabilistic approach for this task and present first results. The main contribution of this paper is to propose a general, comprehensive architecture for designing a system adaptable to different domains.

Abstract. Providing an integrated access to multiple heterogeneous sources is a challenging issue in global information systems for cooperation and interoperability. In the past, companies have equipped themselves with data storing systems building up informative systems containing data that are related one another, but which are often redundant, not homogeneous and not always semantically consistent. Moreover, to meet the requirements of global, Internet-based information systems, it is important that the tools developed for supporting these activities are semi-automatic and scalable as much as possible. To face the issues related to scalability in the large-scale, in this paper we propose the exploitation of mobile agents in the information integration area, and, in particular, their integration in the MOMIS infrastructure. MOMIS (Mediator EnvirOnment for Multiple Information Sources) is a system that has been conceived as a pool of tools to provide an integrated access to heterogeneous information stored in traditional databases (for example relational, object oriented databases) or in file systems, as well as in semi-structured data sources (XML-file). This proposal has been implemented within the MIKS (Mediator agent for Integration of Knowledge Sources) system and it is completely described in this paper.
