Subsequently, faults in the main land were studied by various researchers (Emre et al, 1999;Gökten et al, 1999;Herece, 1999a, b;Koçyigit et al, 1999;Sucuoglu, 1999;Taymaz, 1999;Cerit et al, 2000) and also, active faults in theİzmit Gulf, which was ascribed as graben (Crampin and Evans, 1986) or a pull-apart basin (Barka, 1997;Bargu and Yüksel, 1993;Akgün and Ergün, 1995;Koral andÖncel, 1995), were determined by a high-resolution shallow seismic method (Kuşçu et al, 2002). Apart these traditional studies, the influences of the 17 August 1999 earthquake and faults of the northwest of Anatolia were investigated by the active (Estrada et al, 2001;Türker and San, 2003;Tüfekçi and Akman, 2004) and passive (Barbieri et al, 1999) satellite data.…”
