Active balancing method for series battery pack based on flyback converter

Abstract: Lithium battery has become the main power source of new energy vehicles due to its high energy density and low self-discharge rate. In the actual use of the series battery pack, due to the internal resistance and self-discharge rate of batteries and other factors, inconsistencies between the individual cells are unavoidable. Such inconsistencies will reduce the energy utilisation rate and service life of the battery pack, and even endanger the safety of the battery systems. To improve the consistency of the se… Show more

“…Te magnetisation inductance of the transformer is used as a storage element; for N number of cells, 2N + 4 number of switches, two capacitors and one transformer are used in this topology for BCE. Tis topology is depicted in the circuit shown in Figure 12 [65,66]. Te fyback converter can operate in unidirectional as well as bidirectional modes.…”

“…To further verify the superiority of the novel topology balancing speed, the topology is compared with the topology based on multi-inductor and transformer [14,21], and the simulation models are built in MATLAB/Simulink for verification. The topologies in [14,21] are only for series-connected battery pack, and the topology is also suitable for series-parallel -589 battery pack. To be unified with [14,21], the topology of this study is applied to the series battery pack to compare the balancing speed without affecting its fast balancing speed.…”

To be unified with [14,21], the topology of this study is applied to the series battery pack to compare the balancing speed without affecting its fast balancing speed. All simulation parameters of the three topologies are consistent, as shown in Table 3.…”

“…However, the balancing speed of this method is very slow when there is only one cell with low power in the pack. In contrast to C2P, Pack-to-Cell (P2C), as shown in [31,32], refers to the transfer of energy from the whole battery pack to a cell. This approach enhances balancing speed when there are fewer cells with low power.…”
