The noticeable lack of knowledge among Spanish university students regarding the disciplinary content of research methodology is notable, despite the considerable potential benefits for curriculum design. This study represents the initial phase of a project aimed at analysing and ameliorating this deficiency. It sought to develop a scale to measure the attitudes of education students towards the content of research methods. The psychometric properties were analysed using an incidental sample of 447 students, of whom 87.9% were women and 12.1% were men, aged between 18 and 52 years. Of the total number of participants, 43.2% belonged to the Pedagogy Degree, 36.7% to the Early Childhood Education Degree, and 20.1% to the Social Education Degree of the Faculty of Educational Sciences of the University of Malaga. The instrument was developed based on the ATSQ scale by Ordoñez et al. Both exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses were conducted to assess its validity. The results demonstrate adequate psychometric properties and confirm a three-dimensional model. This model encompasses measures pertaining to three factors: two emotional (emotion− and emotion+) and one cognitive (estimated utility), facilitating the study of the students’ attitude towards the subjects of research methods. Furthermore, it provides arguments to consider a second-order unidimensional model. This study concludes with a discussion on the concept of attitudes towards research methods. Additionally, it identifies future challenges in measuring this construct without linking it to teacher evaluation.

El objetivo del presente artículo es reconstruir e interpretar críticamente una experiencia formativa en Estadística en estudiantes de psicología desde el enfoque metodológico de la sistematización de experiencias (Jara, 2015). El punto de partida de esta sistematización consiste en abordar un problema específico del contexto: la actitud negativa hacia la estadística que manifiestan los estudiantes antes del inicio de un módulo de Enfoques Cuantitativos de Investigación en Ciencias Humanas. En el contexto iberoamericano, la investigación educativa contemporánea en el campo muestra continuamente dificultades actitudinales de los estudiantes hacia estas materias que potencialmente perjudican la calidad de las experiencias formativas. Por ello, en esta sistematización de experiencias detallamos los distintos momentos de un proceso formativo que buscó enfrentar los temores e indiferencia actitudinal de los estudiantes con miras a desarrollar óptimamente fundamentos metodológicos y procedimientos técnicos y prácticos para producir y analizar datos cuantitativos. Tras esta sistematización, las reflexiones del equipo investigador se orientan hacia la necesidad de desarrollar estrategias didácticas, relacionales y socioemocionales que respondan pertinentemente al problema actitudinal de los estudiantes hacia esta materia, así como también a pensar críticamente el lugar que, política y éticamente, ocupa y podría ocupar la estadística en el mundo contemporáneo.

Intergenerational climate at higher education: validity of the Spanish version of the workplace intergenerational climate scale

An ageing workforce and the coexistence of different generations in the same work environment has garnered the interest of practitioners and theoreticians with regard to the climate and interactions that occur between these generations. Although there are various instruments that attempt to measure the intergenerational climate in organizations, there are no studies that demonstrate the effectiveness of such instruments in the Spanish university context. This article presents the analysis of the psychometric properties of the Spanish version of the Workplace Intergenerational Climate Scale (WICS) adjusted to the specific context of higher education institutions and administered to a sample of 1,116 university teachers. After the analyses were carried out, an instrument with 16 items was obtained (4 less than the original questionnaire), and we can affirm that the resulting questionnaire is appropriate to measure the intergenerational climate among university teachers in the fields of teaching, research and management in the Spanish university context. However, more detailed, and individual analysis of each of the areas (i.e., teaching, research and management) would likely yield slightly different models but a better fit.
