“…Possibly, other types of polyphenols, which constituted a large part of these preparations may have weakened the inhibitory effects of hydrolysable tannins of preparations III and IV. It should be noted that 3,6-bis-O-digalloyl-1,2,4-tri-O-galloylβ-D-glucose, which is the major component of Preparation I, was recently shown to form anion-selective channels in lipid bilayers (Borisova et al, 2019). This effect may explain the secondary rising phase on the dose-response curve on the Figure 1a,c, suggesting that these newly formed pores functionally replace the VSOR channel by serving as a pathway for anion efflux.…”

“…Electrostatically, tannins will be tethered to the outer protein-membrane and not the Ca2 + channels on the cell membrane. Cells that have been blocked by their Ca2 + channels will experience damage and die [19]. So that in R.lateristriata and D. rerio embryos with high exposure to D. alata, the embryos could not survive and even die before hatching because the toxins from HCN and tannins were quite strong.…”

“…Tannins interact with proteins through the aromatic rings of the polyphenols and hydrophobic moieties of amino acids—mainly pyrrolidine rings of proline residues, while hydrogen bonds are formed between the hydroxyl groups and the acceptor site for hydrogen in a protein ( Le Bourvellec and Renard, 2012 ). Hydrolysable tannins electrostatically bind to calcium dependent chloride channels located on the outer leaflet of the artificial cell membrane and inhibit them ( Borisova et al, 2019 ). It could be one of the possible mechanism of the antiplatelet activity of tannins since inhibition of chloride channels in platelet leads to membrane depolarization and hinders agonist-induced hyperpolarization and PS exposure ( Harper and Poole, 2013 ).…”
