Actin expression in Taenia solium cysticerci (cestoda): tisular distribution and detection of isoforms

Abstract: Identification, localization and partial biochemical characterization of actins expressed in the larval stage of the cestode parasite Taenia solium has been carried out. Frozen tissue sections of cysticerci, the larval stage of this parasite, were reacted with rhodamine-phalloidin, parasite actin was purified by polymerization in the presence of K(+), Mg(++) and ATP actin was analyzed by SDS-PAGE and two-dimensional gel electrophoresis, and immunoblotting of actin was performed in PVDF membranes and with comme… Show more

“…IgM responses in E. caproni infections are also generated by actin and HSP‐70. The presence of actin in the ESP and the surface of helminths is well documented (11,29,30) and may be of importance in the host–parasite interactions. In E. friedi infections an increased amount of actin has been correlated with early expulsion of this parasite in rats (11).…”

“…In order to obtain a photographic composition of sections from a whole cysticercus, immunofluorescent images were taken and processed as indicated by us during the evaluation of the tisular distribution of actin in T. solium [16].…”

“…Cestodes have been recorded from modern decapods such as true crabs (Dollfus 1976; Torchin et al 2001), hermit crabs (McDermott et al 2010), and shrimps (Dollfus 1976; Georgiev et al 2007). Cestode hooks are mineralized (e.g., Collin 1968; Ambrosio et al 2003). Thus, minute platyhelminth hooks may be found associated with fossil crustaceans in the right preservational settings in the future.…”
