Abstract:Acoustic emission from notched three-point bend specimens of a unidirectionally reinforced and a crossply reinforced polymer has been measured. The unidirectional material gave no acoustic emission prior to catastrophic fracture whereas crossply material showed a gradual accumulation of acoustic emission, proportional to the square root of the area of a damage zone at the notch tip, preceding fracture. The acoustic emission correlated with the stress intensity factor of the sharpened notch although the correla… Show more
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
