Practical experience of the organization and training at the Department of Histology with a course of embryology in the Military Medical Academy, St. Petersburg in a temporary remote format condition of training related to the pandemic due to a Coronavirus Disease-2019 (COVID-19) is provided. Therefore, educational activity was corrected and methodical work directions and the possibility of program technological support are specified. Necessary educational and reference information was in due time made to the cathedral section of the electronic educational environment of the Academy and multimedia textbooks and manuals are updated and expanded. Separate methodological features of remote classes in histology and embryology are characterized. Of which, one is studying the digitized histologic medicines on the educational presentations without microscopes. For digitization, the sites of medicines, which most reflected the features of the fabric structure of the body, cytovery tectonics details, and histologic structure of morphofunctional units, were chosen. Knowledge control of students was carried out by tests, education, research, and visualized histologic tasks. The problematic issues connected with the remote form of education of future medical officers are revealed. Of which, one is limited opportunities of the electronic educational environment based on the volume of the provided computer information. The role and the place of remote technologies in the educational activity of military medical higher education institutions are defined. The attention for remote format training in medical school is an additional internal classroom occupation that is paid and cannot be fully replaced.

The article is dedicated to the prominent Russian morphologist, Head of the Department of Histology of the Ural State Medical University, Honoured Worker of Higher Education of the Russian Federation, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor Sergey Vladimirovich Sazonov. On 17 May 2023 he turned 60 years old. Sergey Vladimirovich devoted his whole life to science, teaching, and his alma mater Ural State Medical University. He opened a number of research and diagnostic laboratories in the Ural Federal District, continuously created and mastered new methods and new research technologies, introduced them into clinical medicine and education. Sergey Vladimirovich was one of the organisers of the first scientific medical journal in our region the Bulletin of the Ural State Medical Academy (now the Bulletin of Ural State Medical University). Sergey Vladimirovich successfully carried out material and technical re-equipment of the Department of Histology at Ural State Medical University, created a completely new in content multimedia course of lectures, and now he actively carries out digital transformation of his discipline, skilfully manages the creation of electronic educational resources in histology. The article reflects the stages of life and creativity of Professor S. V. Sazonov, his main scientific achievements, professional and personal qualities.
Currently, in the teaching of morphological disciplines, there is an acute problem of achieving a balance between the use of traditional methods and the involvement of innovative digital technologies for students training. The purpose of this study was to analyse classical and innovative methods of visualization of histological specimens and to develop proposals for their optimal use in teaching of medical students. The article presents our own long-term experience in teaching morphological disciplines with the involvement of recent literary sources on the methodology of teaching histology, in terms of the contribution of traditional and modern methods to the effectiveness and efficiency of the educational process. The features of the implementation of the course of histology at the Institute of Medical Education in the Almazov Centre are described. The reasons for the need to change approaches to the study of the discipline are presented. The transformation that has taken place in the last decade at the departments of histology in universities, which consists of finding the optimal balance between maintaining the traditional scheme of studying and controlling the assimilation of discipline, and the active integration of digital technologies into the educational process, is considered. Emphasis is placed on the need to improve pedagogical methods, master new educational technologies and actively apply them along with the generally accepted "classical" methods, in order to achieve the main goal - the education of medical stuff of the highest qualification in accordance with the modern needs of society and with the perspective for the future.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
