Acidovorax kalamii sp. nov., isolated from a water sample of the river Ganges

Abstract: A Gram-stain-negative, rod-shaped, aerobic, straw yellow, motile strain, designated KNDSW-TSA6, belonging to the genus Acidovorax, was isolated from a water sample of the river Ganges, downstream of the city of Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, India. Cells were aerobic, non-endospore-forming and motile with single polar flagella. It differed from its phylogenetically related strains by phenotypic characteristics such as hydrolysis of urea, gelatin, casein and DNA, and the catalase reaction. The major fatty acids were C1… Show more

“…Finally, members of the Acidovorax genus were over-represented in the adductor muscle and digestive gland bacterial communities. Members of the Acidovorax have been isolated from a diverse range of environments including soil (Chaudhary & Kim, 2018), water (Pal et al, 2018), and from cyanobacterial blooms (Chun et al, 2017).…”

“…Members of this bacterial genus have been classified as environmental microbes, endosymbionts of earthworms, phytopathogens, and opportunistic human pathogens ( 1 9 ). A. kalamii was first described in 2018 ( 10 ) and cultured from a water sample of the River Ganges in India, yet relationships or ecosystem roles are undescribed.…”

“…En relación con la especie de bacterias Gram negativas de los géneros Acidovorax y Brevundimonas perteneciente a las alfa proteobacterias y beta proteobacterias, respectivamente, las cuales se aislaron también de las aguas termales del balneario Urauco, se pude indicar que las mismas se han aislado de otros manantiales de aguas minerales termales, tanto de Ecuador, España y Venezuela (29,37,42,50).…”
