Achrysocharoides Girault (Hymenoptera, Eulophidae) new to tropical America, with eight new species

Abstract: The genus Achrysocharoides Girault is here reported for the first time from tropical America. Included are ten species, eight newly described: Achrysocharoides asperulus, Achrysocharoides callisetosus, Achrysocharoides cuspidatus, Achrysocharoides foveatus, Achrysocharoides infuscus, Achrysocharoides mediocarinatus, Achrysocharoides purpureus, Achrysocharoides sulcatus, and two already known: Achrysocharoides ecuadorensis (Hansson) and Achrysocharoides gliricidiae (Hansson & Cave). All species are included in … Show more

“…Qualitative examination of WIPs of all species revealed the presence of a uniformly colored area in the apical part of wing that was discussed by Kangasniemi (2012) for the tribe Meteorini (Hymenoptera: Braconidae). It may be a characteristic of the family Braconidae, as it was not observed in the chalcidoid families Eurytomidae (Hosseini et al, 2019) or Eulophidae (Hansson, 2011(Hansson, , 2012Hansson & Shevtsova, 2012;Hosseini et al, 2020).…”

“…These patterns are regarded as reliable characters for species recognition (Butterworth et al, 2021;Hansson, 2011Hansson, , 2012Hosseini et al, 2019;Hosseini et al, 2020;. They can also be used to differentiate sexes (Butterworth et al, 2021;Hosseini et al, 2019Hosseini et al, , 2020 and geographical biotypes (Hosseini et al, 2019(Hosseini et al, , 2020 and may even help in the identification of cryptic species in some genera (Hansson, 2012;. They can also be useful criteria in phylogenetic studies (Buffington & Sandler, 2011;Kangasniemi, 2012).…”
