Acetolactate Synthase Activity in Developing Maize (Zea mays L.) Kernels

Abstract: Storage protein synthesis in the developing maize kernel begins around 10 d after pollination and creates a large demand for amino acids. Most of the nitrogen arriving via the translocation stream is in the form of aspartic acid and the amides asparagine and glutamine (2).
