Acetazolamide-Induced Periorbital Myokymia: A Case Report

Abstract: Acetazolamide, a carbonic anhydrase inhibitor, is primarily used in the treatment of glaucoma, due to its role in decreasing intraocular pressure by lowering the production of aqueous humor. Additionally, by lowering cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) production, it is also used in the treatment of raised intracranial pressure. Drug-induced myokymia has rarely been reported, with known triggers being clozapine, gabapentin and flunarizine, and topiramate. Acetazolamide-induced myokymia itself has only been reported once… Show more

“…They are one of the most irnportant classes of organic compounds and they are found to possess several biological activities [1-21. The 4-(4-tert-butylphenoxy)methyl and 4-(4-n itrophenoxy)rnethyl analogues possesse d greatest toxicity towards the majority of the tested fungi [3] Conventional routes for the synthesis of coumarin-containing compounds involve the Pechmann reactioncondensation of pher-rols and B-keto esters. In some cases reaction mixtures were allowed to stand overnight or for a number of days or were heated above 150 Co[+].…”
