Acellular Dermal Matrix for Mucogingival Surgery: A Meta‐Analysis

Abstract: Differences in study design and lack of data precluded an adequate and complete pooling of data for a more comprehensive analysis. Therefore, considering the trends presented in this study, there is a need for further randomized clinical studies of ADM procedures in comparison to common mucogingival surgical procedures to confirm our findings. It is difficult to draw anything other than tentative conclusions from this meta-analysis of ADM for mucogingival surgery, primarily because of the weakness in the desig… Show more

“…ARC was 95.77 ± 0.11% for the control group and 94.21 ± 0.20% for the test group. These observations are in accordance with other papers comparing the use of ADMA and CTG in cases of both individual and multiple gingival recession coverage using different operating techniques [27][28][29]. On the other hand, they contradict other studies which showed statistically better results when a connective tissue graft was applied [11,30].…”

“…Several techniques 4,5 are available for the management of gingival recession defects with associated demerits like limited quantity of available graft, compromised patients esthetics, additional surgical sites, postoperative complications, and less availability of cost-effective treatment. Therefore, in the present scenario, autogenous periosteum as a lateral pedicle graft for the coverage of denuded root seems to be a technique that can be used with effectiveness, high efficiency and less postoperative complication, high predictability, and very cost-effective treatment because of autogenous nature of the graft.…”

“…Los tejidos del donante se preparan mediante la eliminación de la epidermis y los componentes celulares de la piel. La matriz de colágeno acelular es entonces crio-protegida y rápidamente liofilizada, esto para preservar su integridad estructural y bioquímica (5) . En periodoncia e implantología, se ha estudiado, principalmente, para el aumento de encía adherida y en el manejo de las recesiones gingivales (Figura 1).…”
