Accurate Sensors Offering Unrestricted Recal113ration And Long Term Stability For Determining High Temperatures On The Basis Of Gas-sensitive Effects Of Different Gases On Metal Oxides

Abstract

SUMMAInvestigations of the gas sensitivity of specific metaloxide thin films (such as SrTiO, and CeO,) have shown that at particular combinations of gas composition and sensor material there exists a specific temperature at which the gas mixture changes from being an 'oxidising' agent to a 'reducing' agent. It is shown that this effect can be used to manufacture a temperature sensor that is calibrated in the desired temperature range (500°C to lO00"C) and whose resistance exhibits an exponential dependence on temperature. The resolution of this principle of measuring high temperatures is better than f 1 K.
