Accurate Calibration and Measurement of Optoelectronic Devices

Abstract: Frequency responses of optoelectronic devices are essential to obtain the precise performance of electrical-to-optical-to-electrical signal conversion or optical signal processing. We reviewed the development of optical or electrical measurement methods proposed for characterizing electrical/optical (E/O) devices, optical/electrical (O/E) devices and optical/optical (O/O) devices in the frequency domain from the perspective of accurate calibration standard. It has been found that full calibrated E/O or O/E mea… Show more

“…The thermal conductivity coefficient of titanium is 22.08 W (mK) −1 , 13 times lower than aluminum. [ 3,4 ] ASTM B265 classifies pure titanium into seven grades (1–4, 7, 11, and 12 grades) by contamination level. The purity of titanium affects its mechanical qualities.…”

“…In contrast, the optical path in the grating encoder is much shorter, and its primary measuring standard is the physical grating pitch [ 14 , 15 , 16 ]. Thus, the grating encoder is less affected by the environment, normally demonstrates a more stable performance, and has great potential for precision position and pose measurement [ 17 , 18 , 19 ]. However, the state-of-the-art grating encoders mainly focus either on the absolute measurement in one-axis, or on the multi-DOF incremental measurement [ 20 , 21 , 22 , 23 ], and there are few types of research on absolute-type multi-DOF measurement, and it remains a large challenge to combine them while keeping a compact and lower weight structure.…”

“…An improved VNAbased method is presented to optimize the calibration, while the measuring frequency range is limited by the operating bandwidth of the PD [11,12]. Recently, in order to realize wideband measurement, we proposed the electro-optic modulation mixing methods based on serial modulation [13][14][15], which can enable the self-calibrated measurement with the doubled measuring frequency range. Nevertheless, for the EMLs with a bandwidth of tens of GHz or even higher, these methods still need a high frequency PD.…”
