Accuracy of sample material parameters reconstruction using terahertz pulsed spectroscopy

Abstract: New experimental and theoretical results for the material parameter reconstruction using terahertz (THz) pulsed spectroscopy (TPS) are presented. The material parameter reconstruction algorithm was realized and experimentally implemented to study the test sample. In order to both verify the algorithm and to estimate the reconstruction accuracy, test sample material parameters obtained with the TPS were compared with the results of the same sample studying by the use of the backward-wave oscillator (BWO) spectr… Show more

“…The applications also include the generation and detection processes based on dipole effects in two-dimensional semiconductor structures and graphene. [86][87][88] In addition, a series of sub-millimeter and THz devices, sources for THz pulsed spectroscopy 89 could be based on the discussed effect. Light localization effects are very important for spectroscopy and sensing applications because enhanced interaction of light and matter (gases, liquids, and solids) injected into the PC could be attained.…”

“…Moreover, as we all have involved in the scientific work at the University, we prepared lectures about our own research projects, concerning 3D-vision, 2 medical application of optical devices, 3-5 photonic crystals, 6-8 spectroscopy and its applications in various cases, [9][10][11][12][13][14] and fiber optics. For all of these seminars were explained the main results of the different studies.…”

“…To examine the impact of the sample transfer function determination error on the reconstruction error for various numbers of satellite pulses , we implement the local linearization [28], [64] of the theoretical transfer function (5) (8) where is a complex coefficient of the local linearization. By calculating for typical experimental conditions (for simplicity, we assume, that and are the THz refractive index and absorption coefficient of the reference window at THz, mm is the thickness of this window, and and mm are the typical values of THz refractive index and absorption coefficient of the skin tissue in vivo at THz), we determine the dependence , which is presented in Fig.…”

“…The list of factors, which are inherent specifically to the proposed method, includes digital noise in the TPS waveforms, spectral inhomogeneity of the TPS sensitivity, and fluctuations of the reference window position, caused by movements of the sample in vivo. All these factors should be considered during solution of the inverse problem and estimation of the reconstruction error [28], [65].…”
