Accuracy of Distal Long Femur Nail Locking with Different Techniques

Abstract: Objectives:The procedure for distal interlocking of intramedullary nails can be challenging problem for surgeons. Following the nail insertion, the problems associated with the location of the distal holes and correct screw placements are well known. A lot of techniques and devices have been studied to aid distal targeting, in attempts to overcome some of the associated problems. The development of the techniques and devices help to reduce radiation doses. Methods: Forty patients who underwent surgery with clos… Show more

“…Nail deformation affects the accuracy of distal interlocking of the intramedullary nails (IMN) which is a common procedure in tibia and femoral fractures 1 – 4 . Moreover, holes locations of the intramedullary nail are unknown which adds to the deformation problem 5 9 . Numerous techniques for interlocking screw insertion have been proposed to optimize number of drilling and operation time and avoid ionizing radiation exposure 10 , 11 .…”

“…Intramedullary nailing (IMN) is one of the most common surgical operations for xation of long bone fractures 1,2 . One of the most di cult parts of the surgery is to nd the accurate drilling position to fasten the interlocking screw since the holes locations are unknown and the nail deforms during installation inside the long bone canal [3][4][5][6][7] . Numerous techniques for interlocking screw insertion have been proposed to optimize number of drilling and operation time and avoid ionizing radiation exposure 8,9 .…”
