This study uses service area–based coverage and various count regression methods to assess neighbourhood‐level healthy and unhealthy food environments, and food access associated with different socio‐economic groups in Edmonton, Canada. We identify three types of vulnerable neighbourhoods according to different food environments: food deserts (i.e., neighbourhoods lack sufficient access to healthy foods); food swamps (i.e., neighbourhoods have excess access to unhealthy foods); and those with overlaps of food swamps and food deserts. We also identify neighbourhoods with superior access to healthy foods (i.e., food oases). Additionally, our results from regression analyses indicate: (1) child population is negatively associated with both healthy and unhealthy food resources; (2) good access to public transportation is associated with good coverage of all healthy food outlets and convenience stores; and (3) deprived neighbourhoods with higher percentages of minority populations have better coverage of both healthy and unhealthy foods in general. The results from this study can help the City of Edmonton identify the key neighbourhoods with high potential for local business and the hotspot neighbourhoods that require particular support. Tailored strategies are proposed to effectively and efficiently improve food environments with limited resources.

This paper proposes a spatial difference analysis method for evaluating transit-based accessibility to hospitals using spatially adjusted ANOVA. This method specializes in examining spatial variations of accessibility to hospitals by regions (i.e. administrative districts or subdistricts). The spatial lag model is applied to adjust traditional ANOVA, which reduces spatial dependency and avoids false rejection to null hypothesis. Multiple comparison methods are used for further detection of differences in accessibility between regions. After multiple comparison, accessibility within regions is classified into three levels. The study is conducted on two scales—administrative districts and subdistricts—to discuss spatial variations in macro and micro dimensions respectively in the central part of Wuhan, China. Accessibility is calculated by using a simple model and a gravity model. The final classification results showed that the spatially adjusted method is more reliable than the traditional non spatially adjusted one and the gravity model can better detect more hidden information about the inequal distribution of medical resources. It is also found that the subdistricts, which have significantly lower accessibility to hospitals than others, are mainly distributed in Hongshan and Qingshan district. Our study hopes to shed new lights in spatial difference analysis for accessibility and provide policy recommendations that would promote equality in provisions of public health services.

В современной России, за исключением Москвы, новая инфраструктура общественного транспорта появляется нечасто, а вопрос о последствиях инфраструктурного развития такого рода зачастую остается открытым. Запуск Московского центрального кольца (МЦК) дает возможность провести исследование, фокусирующееся на изменениях в транспортном поведении горожан. В рамках опроса пассажиров МЦК, проведенного в сентябре 2017 г., было изучено несколько аспектов. Во-первых, мы попытались переопределить концепт «доступность» как возможность посетить новые места. Результаты показали, что порядка 20% пассажиров стали совершать новые поездки. Во-вторых, изучались причины выбора МЦК пассажирами для конкретной поездки, зафиксированной во время опроса. Наиболее частая причина — «удобство», которое понимается респондентами крайне расширительно. Наконец, особый интерес представляло собой соотнесение прогнозных и фактических значений распределения входящего пассажиропотока на станции МЦК по способу добраться до станций. Результат показал, что прогнозы сильно недооценили объем пешеходных передвижений. Помимо теоретической и прикладных задач в рамках проекта апробирована методика перехватывающих опросов для составления выборочной совокупности. Благодарность.
