This study generally focuses on newspaper archives in relation with the democratic system in which they developed and also their importance in the formation of democratic public sphere. We mainly try to analyze and understand with this study the general situation of newspaper archives and how the digitization of archives affects and the functions in construction of the democratic public sphere in Republic of Turkey. Together with the digitalization process, which possibilities have emerged in terms of transparency and accessibility therefore in terms of freedom of communication on public's reach to newspaper archives is the main question asked in this paper. Within the scope of this study, literature review was conducted to discuss the relationship between democracy and public space and newspaper archives and to collect data on both manual and digital newspaper archives in Turkey in-depth interview technique has been chosen as research method. With two of Turkey's largest national newspaper and a total of 7 people from the national library of interviews were conducted in Ankara and Istanbul. The findings will be interpreted in the context of innovations, possibilities and constraints of digital archiving in the construction of a democratic public sphere.
