Acceptance of GIS within ERP System: Research Study in Higher Education

Abstract: GIS is often used in companies where employees already use enterprise information systems/enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems and where both systems are used simultaneously. This article is a research study of GIS acceptance by users using GIS, not as a stand-alone tool, but as an integrated tool into the ERP system. The research was conducted using the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM), one of the most often used research models for researching behavioral intention and actual use of information systems… Show more

“…Due to the difficulty of managing each system, the GIS often do not contain data on regular company operations such as existing and future clients on a map for market research. This integration may provide various benefits to both areas by combining ERP systems, thereby helping to manage the workflow and GIS for location-based information management [63]. This measure could prevent the use of the geographical analytic capabilities of GIS and the business transaction-management tools of ERP systems.…”

“…Sternad et al [63] noted that with business integration, a user can directly access the GIS from inside the ERP system and visualize data from the ERP system within the GIS. The ability to make decisions by viewing the results from both platforms on a screen in a plain visible manner, without the need to move between systems and correlate data across many systems, enables a user to accomplish more [64].…”

“…Numerous academics and researchers have been conducting studies to investigate the impact that advances in information technology can have on the quality of urban governance (Verhoef et al, 2021); (He et al, 2021) and (Chen & Xiao, 2022). Several studies that looked at the application of GIS to the decision-making process of urban planning came to positive conclusions, such as an increase in the effectiveness and efficiency of decision-making (Odongo & Ma, 2021); (Sternad Zabukovšek et al, 2022); (Khashoggi & Murad, 2020); (Ahasan et al, 2022); (Alnsour & Meaton, 2015) and (Thondoo et al, 2020). The research that has been done on smart cities has also demonstrated that it can improve the quality of life of city residents by doing things like increasing the efficiency of public transportation and better managing garbage.…”
