In this paper, we compare the prosodic structure in Spanish learners of French and in French native speakers. For this, we will consider the accentual structure of both speaker groups during the reading, in French, of the same text in the same conditions. We started by looking at some differences between the Spanish stress system and the French stress system in order to compare Spanish learners' productions to those of French native speakers. We then considered different variables such as position of stress, number of accentual phrases (AP), number of phonic groups (PG), number of APs per PG, number of syllables per AP, total number of pauses, average duration of pauses, as well as syllable duration.The results show that the Spanish learners' group does not have any difficulty moving stress to the final syllable of the AP, but they have not yet acquired the delimitative function of stress and the concept of stress group. These results reflect an intermediate stage of their interlanguage in which they have mastered some characteristics of L2 prosody but the outcome is still far from that of native speakers.

In this paper we discuss French prosody in the light of language contact. Data of three contact varieties of French are compared with two varieties spoken in monolingual contexts. The data are semi-automatically processed, and three prosodic features are analyzed: metrical weight of the Accentual Phrases (AP), respect of AP formation constraints, and realizations of sandhi phenomena. Rhythmic constraints and speech rate measurements are also considered. Our findings suggest that the contact varieties share several features with word prosodic systems.

Cet article présente les résultats d'une expérience dans laquelle nous avons présenté à 120 participants Français, Suisses romands et Suisses alémaniques des stimuli de parole filtrée ( i.e. dépourvus de leurs propriétés segmentales) et des stimuli de parole naturelle, extraits de productions de locuteurs Parisiens, Neuchâtelois et du « français fédéral » ( i.e. de français produit par des locuteurs dont la langue maternelle est un dialecte suisse alémanique). Les résultats révèlent que, si toutes les variétés sont bien identifiées en parole non-filtrée, les résultats sont plus contrastés dans la condition filtrée. Des analyses complémentaires ont ensuite permis de révéler que le rôle des indices prosodiques (relatifs aux dimensions temporelles et accentuelles de la parole) n'étaient pas exploités de la même façon par les auditeurs lors de l'identification des variétés en jeu.
