Accelerating secure circuit design with hardware implementation of Diehard Battery of tests of randomness

Abstract: 1-Pseudorandom number generators (PRNGs) are used frequently in secure data processing algorithms. Randomness measuring is an essential test, performed on these generators, that help to range the security of the designed algorithm with respect to assure strong messingup of the processed data. This paper describes a solution for accelerating statistical tests of Diehard Battery based on reconfigurable hardware, benefiting from task parallelization and high frequencies. With this proposal, users can obtain a fas… Show more

“…Many embedded tests implementations have been put forward in recent years for both FPGAs [3], [4], [5] and ASIC [3], [6]. However, all presented tests are tailored for independent, identically distributed (IID) number generators.…”

“…The features were selected based on the previous implementations of on-the-fly tests. We looked into the implementations presented in [2], [3], [4], [5], [6], [7], [8], [9] and selected the features that can be implemented in a simple and compact manner. In addition, we recommended using the auto-correlation coefficients.…”

“…Related work can be divided into two groups. The first group consists of implementations of standard statistical tests [2], [3], [4], [5], [6], [7], [8], [9]. These tests are originally designed for prototype evaluation, so some of them are too computationally intensive to be practical for on-the-fly testing.…”

“…Hardware implementations of 4 FIPS tests are proposed in [7], [8]. Implementations of 2 simple tests from NIST and 4 from DIEHARD suites are presented in [9] and [10]. In [11], an FPGA implementation based on dynamic reconfiguration was provided.…”
