Accelerating Apache Farms Through Ad-HOC Distributed Scalable Object Repository

Abstract: Abstract. We present hoc: a fast, scalable object repository providing programmers with a general storage module. hoc may be used to implement DSMs as well as distributed cache subsystems. hoc is composed of a set of hot-pluggable cooperating processes that may sustain a close to optimal network traffic rate. We designed an hoc-based Web cache that extends the Apache Web server and remarkably improves Apache farms performances with no modification to the Apache core code.

“…A significant infrastructure component of ASSIST, AdHoc is a hierarchical and fault‐tolerant distributed shared‐memory infrastructure to interconnect streams of data between processing elements by providing a repository with get, put, remove, and execute operations 70, 71. It is primarily focused on providing integration, scalability, and fault‐tolerance to the data repository access.…”

“…ASSISTlib provides a set of "task code" classes implementing the instructions of the compiler target abstract architecture. AdHOC library provides a shared data abstraction [9]. Eventually the application and module managers provide autonomic control in the ASSIST applications and in the single parmod modules taking care of monitoring the execution of applications and adapt their execution to the dynamic target Grid features.…”
