Accelerated electrons and microwave irradiation effects on the human erythrocyte membranes

Abstract: The effects of 2.45 GHz microwave irradiation as well as of the combined microwave and 6 MeV accelerated electron beam treatment of the human erythrocyte membranes at liquid nitrogen temperature are presented. The changes in the properties of the erythrocyte membranes were estimated by measuring the haemolysis degree (HD) of the irradiated samples. “…The osmotic resistance of irradiated erythrocytes was determined by measuring spectrophotometrically the hemoglobin loss in the supernatant of the erythrocytes exposed after irradiation to osmotic shock by suspending them in buffer solutions with different concentrations of NaC1.
