Acaricide efficiency of amitraz / cypermethrin and abamectin pour-on preparations in game

Abstract: The efficacy of an amitraz / cypermethrin pour-on preparation (1 % w/v each) was tested against natural tick infestations of buffaloes, eland and blesbok in three separate trials. The eland were also treated with a 0.02 % abamectin (w/v) acaricidal pour-on preparation. The amitraz / cypermethrin pour-on was effective against Amblyomma hebraeum, Rhipicephalus evertsi evertsi, Rhipicephalus appendiculatus and Hyalomma marginatum ruf… Show more

“…19 The antibody to Wesselsbron virus, which was used as the negative reagent control antibody in this study, was similarly prepared at the National Institute for Communicable Diseases, and validated for IHC at the Faculty of Veterinary Science, University of Pretoria. 25,34 In addition, to confirm that intravascular immunoreactivity observed in this study was due to RVFV antigens, tissue sections were sequentially tested with the antibodies to RVFV and Wesselsbron virus.…”

“…Similarly, some effects have been reported for abamectin and other AVMs in other tick species (Campbell et al, 1983;Ash and Oliver, 1989;Pereira et al, 2009;Doan et al, 2013). This may contribute and explain the successful use of AVMs as acaricides (Drummond, 1985;Van Der Merwe et al, 2005;Davey et al, 2010;Montasser et al, 2011).…”
