Acaricidal activity of the essential oil from Tetradenia riparia (Lamiaceae) on the cattle tick Rhipicephalus (Boophilus) microplus (Acari; Ixodidae)

Abstract: Tetradenia riparia (Lamiaceae) is a well-known herbal medicine with a variety of useful properties, including its acaricidal effect. This experiment was carried out to study the bioacaricidal activity of T. riparia essential oil (EO) against engorged females of Rhipicephalus (Boophilus) microplus (Acari; Ixodidae). For this purpose, nine serial concentrations (12.50%, 6.25%, 3.75%, 1.80%, 0.90%, 0.45%, 0.22%, 0.11%, and 0.056% w/v) of T. riparia were used for the adult immersion test (AIT). For the larval pack… Show more

“…Fractions 16 (6.6 mg) and 17 (11.7 mg) were identified by 1 H, 13 C, DEPT, HSQC, HMBC and NOESY, and by comparison with literature data [24]. Thus, fraction 16 was elucidated as a new compound, identified as 9β,13β-epoxy-7-abietene (1) Amorphous white solid; GC retention time 33.78 min.…”

“…Although there is broad report on the isolated compounds of T. riparia essential oil, our group still searches for minor constituents that represent a great challenge for researchers. The essential oil of T. riparia present biological activities that are reported in the literature as antispasmodic [4], larvicidal and insecticidal [1], anti-mycobacterial [11], antimalarial [2], repellent of Anopheles gambiae [12], antimicrobial, antinociceptive [8], and acaricidal against Rhipicephalus (Boophilus) microplus [13].…”

“…Essential oils, including those of the Lamiaceae family, can stimulate cytokines that mediate the protective cellular immune response against intracellular pathogens, other agents, cancer, and autoimmune disorders . The immunomodulatory and antileishmanial effects that were induced by TrEO may be attributable to its complex mixture of compounds.…”
