Acaricidal activities of some essential and fixed oils on the two-spotted spider mite, Tetranychus urticae

Abstract: A comparison was made for studying the effect of some Essential oils: Rosemary, Garlic, Jojoba and Fixed/Vegetable oils on the important mite pest, Tetranychus urticae. The sublethal concentrations of Rosemary oil (0.125%), Garlic oil (0.5%), Jojoba oil (0.25%) and Vegetable oil (0.125%) were used. Biological tests were carried out for a susceptible laboratory two-spotted spider mites strain reared under controlled conditions of 27±٢°C; 60% R.H. and 16L/8D photoperiod on Sweet Potato leaves. Results showed tha… Show more

“…The efficacy of the applied oils met these criteria for the applied dipping assays. Similarly, garlic extracts have shown a considerable toxicity to a number of species of different insect orders and to different developmental stages (Ismail et al, 2011;Meriga et al, 2012;Wang et al, 2014;and Ali et al, 2017). Furthermore, lavender and eucalyptus oils were used efficiently to control other species (Khater et al 2009;Khater et al 2013;and Shalaby et al, 2016) Biochemical effect: Data in table (3) showed the effect of sub lethal concentration (LC 50 ) of garlic, peppermint, eucalyptus, and lavender oils on the activity of α-and β-esterases in treated 4 th instar larvae of S. littoralis for 24-h.…”

“…The acaricidal effects of some essential and fixed oils on the twospider mite, T.urticae were investigated by Ismail et al (2011). In their studies a comparison was made for studying the effect of the essential oils : Rosemasy, garlic, Jojoba and a fixed the highest significant decrease in the numbers of deporited eggs as compared to the other tested oils.…”

“…Barakat et al, (1986) applied acetone extract of garlic bulb on Phaseolus vulgaris leaves and recorded reduction in T. urticae fecundity. On the other hand, Ismail, et al (2011) recorded that the sub-lethal concentration of pure essential oil of garlic has no effect on T. urticae fecundity. Regarding hatchability, also they recorded the same results.…”
