AC susceptibility data on Dy2O3 seeded randomly oriented Dy-123 mono domains melt-textured superconductor

Abstract: Dy-123 superconducting ceramics have been grown using small Dy 2 O 3 single-crystals as seeds. Randomly oriented large mono-domains have been observed in the vicinity of the seeding single crystal. These domains are one order of magnitude greater in volume than the seed. The AC susceptibility versus temperature curves have been measured in a polycrystalline cubic sample for different orientations of the magnetic field with respect to the sample and for amplitudes up to 20 G. Three measuring coils, each paralle… Show more

“…Dysprosium and dysprosium oxide have been materials of interest for a long time [1][2][3][4][5][6][7][8][9] as dysprosium is a lanthanide metal with the largest magnetic moment and susceptibility. 2 In addition, combination of polymeric architectures with dysprosium ions can produce hybrid materials with extremely rich properties.…”

“…[4][5][6] Regarding the performance of Dy 2 O 3 as essentially a paramagnetic oxide, standards in the form of Dy 2 O 3 powders have been exploited for quantum interference magnetometer, 7 vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM), 8 or in the form of small single crystals as additive seeds for superconducting materials for a susceptometer. 9 Dysprosium-doped polymers and glasses can emit white light, 10,11 while Dy:PbGa 2 S 4 compound has been shown to be a solid state laser material emitting at 4.32 lm when pumped by 1.7 lm laser diodes. 12 It is known from literature, that ternary compounds containing Dy may have a large magnetocaloric effect while DyTiO 3 (material with perovskite structure) has been studied as a material that might find application in devices for magnetization and heat capacity measurements.…”
