AC power flow importance measures considering multi-element failures

Abstract: Quantifying the criticality of individual components of power systems is essential for overall reliability and management. This paper proposes an AC-based power flow element importance measure, while considering multi-element failures. The measure relies on a proposed AC-based cascading failure model, which captures branch overflow, bus load shedding, and branch failures, via AC power flow and optimal power flow analyses. Taking the IEEE 30, 57 and 118-bus power systems as case studies, we find that N-3 analys… Show more

“…However, the self-regulating function of the generators and the economic power dispatch have not been considered in the above-mentioned cascading failure models. Li et al (2017a; built an AC cascading failure model considering bus load shedding and AC optimal power flow analyses. The self-regulating function and economic dispatch are considered in their models.…”

“…Therefore, in well-known studies, value k does not exceed, as a rule, 3 or 4. To substantiate the practical sufficiency of these values, it should be noted that, starting from them, there is a good degree of correlation between the assessments of the importance of the elements obtained at different k [31].…”

“…A promising tool for building DSSs is represented by Bayesian Networks. These are network of random variables used to represent in an efficient manner the uncertainty in a problem and for which efficient methods have been developed to perform Bayesian inference (Nielsen and Jensen 2009). The latter, i.e.…”
