Abstract:Proteasome inhibition has been shown to be an important strategy for treating many types of cancer. Although proteasome inhibitors are effective at eradicating rapidly proliferating cancer cells, a subset of cancer cells enter quiescence and survive, contributing to tumor recurrence. Using primary human fibroblasts as a model system we have shown that quiescent cells have decreased reactive oxygen species levels and protein aggregates, and undergo apoptosis less frequently than proliferating cells in response … Show more
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
