Abstract: Over 90% of all malignant tumors in the head and neck region are squamous cell carcinomas (HNSCC), ranking within the top 10 of most common cancers worldwide. HNSCC arise in the mucosal linings of the upper aerodigestive tract, and known risk factors are tobacco use, excessive alcohol consumption and infection with high risk types of the human papillomavirus (HPV).
