Abstract: Background: Inflammatory cytokines like tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-α) are known to impair skeletal muscle (SM) function. Furthermore, TNF-α induces the expression of atrogin-like muscle specific ubiquitin E3-ligases, presumed to mediate muscle atrophy.
