Abstract: Introduction: Re-establishing vasculature after a myocardial infarction (MI) may spare cardiomyocytes from death due to lack of sufficient oxygen. WISP-1 -a secreted matricellular protein that regulates angiogenesis in certain cancers- promotes cell survival in isolated cardiomyocytes in vitro .
