Abstract 1149: The expression of Ki-67, but not IGF1R, predicts a poor disease-free survival in patients with adenocarcinoma of the lung

Abstract: Background: Ki-67 expression has been established as a predictive marker for recurrence in breast cancer. The insulin-like growth factor 1 receptor (IGF1R) is a transmembrane heterotetrameric protein implicated in promoting the oncogenic transformation, growth and survival of cancer cells. However, no useful data are presently available regarding the biological significance of both molecules in lung cancer. Therefore, we investigated the relationship between the expression of Ki-67 and IGF1R. This is the first… Show more

“…S3). Another study corroborated these findings by showing that patient survival was decreased from 84% to 50% for patients with tumors expressing CD146 [28]. For these reasons, CD146 has become an attractive biomarker for predicting patient survival, stratification of cancer patients, and the development of CD146-targeted therapies.…”

“…Additionally, we revealed the prognostic relevance of a LEF1/TCF4 signature in primary lung adenocarcinomas in a microarray dataset of primary lung adenocarcinomas. Independently, we demonstrated that Ki67 expression in the metastatic tissues, a recently established marker in early-stage primary lung cancer tissue [8], still has prognostic value in this late stage of the disease. Interestingly, there was a trend in nuclear LEF1 expression to correlate with high proliferation index Ki67.…”

“…Moreover, some of the histological markers in primary lung adenocarcinomas have prognostic impact. TTF1-negativity as well as a high proliferation index Ki67 are associated with poor overall survival in early-stage disease [5–8]. …”

“…Previous reports showed that Ki-67 expression was associated with tumor progression and patient survival in various human cancers including colorectal cancer (30)(31)(32). Recently, Egr-1 was found to promote tumor cell proliferation in gastric cancer cells (33).…”
