Abstract:We have previously reported that Bcl-2 expression resulted in an increase in intracellular superoxide anion and that a dominant negative mutant of the small GTPase Rac1 sensitized Bcl-2 expressing cells to apoptosis. Here we report that silencing and functional inhibition of Rac1 blocks Bcl-2 mediated increases in intracellular and mitochondrial superoxide levels in tumor cells. We provide evidence that this effect is mediated via specific interaction between the two proteins using co-immunoprecipitation, conf… Show more
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
