Absrobed Dose Estimates in Positron Emission Tomography Studies Based on the Administration of 18F-Labeled Radiopharmaceuticals.

Abstract: Absorbed doses were estimated after intravenous administration of 18F-labeled radiopharmaceuticals in Positron Emission Tomography (PET) studies. These radiopharmaceuticals, [18F]-2-Fluoro-2-Deoxy-D-Glucose (FDG), 6-[18F]Fluoro-L-Dopa (FDOPA) and 18F-5-Fluorodeoxyuridine (FdUR), are used in clinical research at the Cyclotron and Radioisotope Center of Tohoku University. Radiopharmaceutical biokinetic values were measured in humans or extrapolated from animal experiments. Selective organ uptake and rapid cleara… Show more

“…A more conservative dose calculation of 28.6 6 2.3 mSv/MBq was listed with a urinary interval of 4.8 h (Supplemental Table 1). This value is comparable to values from other PET tracers for clinical routine use (28,29) and makes 18 F-AV-133 suitable for clinical imaging applications, including longitudinal studies. Figure 3 shows the transverse brain images of a representative healthy subject at the level of the striatum, caudate head, and brain stem.…”

“…Because of the short half-life of' 'C and the significant amount of expired radioactivity as "CO 2 , radiationabsorbed doses were lower than those of ' 8F-labeled compounds. 20 …”
