“…A 10) where the variation of the isotopic signal changes over time expressed at the 33 E/ 36 E space. During the preparation of this paper Endo and co-workers (Endo et al, 2022) have reported 32,33,34,36 SO2 high resolution UV absorption spectra in the 206-220 nm region. A detailed study on the incidence of spectral resolution coupled to spectral errors, spectral range, and variability of the solar spectra deserves a substantial amount of work that would render this paper exceedingly long.…”

“…Additional products are organic compounds and residual SO 2 that may also be MIF‐bearing (see detailed review by Halevy, 2013). Also, self‐shielding of the SO 2 molecule during photolysis and polymerization reactions between the products may play a role in controlling the final distribution of isotopic compositions (Endo et al., 2022; Harman et al., 2018). These atmospheric species are rained out and are buried in sediments as sulfide and sulfate minerals, organic sulfur compounds or elemental sulfur.…”

“…For evaluation of the impact in the Archean photochemistry by S 2 , it is essential to know which spectral window is free of competing absorbers. It is important to consider species that would be the directly emitted reactants by outgassing and volcanic eruptions: H 2 S , and SO 2 . Their photolysis products have to be taken into account as well: SH and SO. , Two spectral windows are free from interference by these compounds and are of particular interest: 230–245 and 260–270 nm. At last, it should be noted that the trace gases in an anoxic atmosphere do not absorb light at these wavelengths, and S 2 is active in the sulfur photochemical cycle.…”
