“…Steam volatile fatty acid (VFA) assimilation was demonstrated in calves 3 to 5 days old by changes in the veno-arterial concentration difference of the rumen after the introduction of a buffered solution of the acids into the fasted, emptied, and rinsed-out forestomach (Khouri 1969). Rapid removal of absorbed VFA from the peripheral circulation suggested that the animals were also capable of metabolising the acids.…”
