Absorption modes of Möbius strip resonators

Abstract: In this work, the electromagnetic response of a mathematically interesting shape—a Möbius strip—is presented, along with a ring resonator for comparison. Both resonators consist of a central lossy dielectric layer bounded by perfectly conducting layers. For the case of the Möbius strips, the computational results show that there are a family of half-integer wavelength modes within the dielectric layer. These additional modes result in increased absorption, and a corresponding reduction in the radar cross secti… Show more

“…This fascinating, single-surfaced geometry has entertained mathematicians and children alike for centuries 25,26 and more recently has found application, for example, in novel resonator designs. 27 The structure can easily be constructed with a sticky strip having an aspect ratio (width, w to length, L ) below , by twisting the strip and then overlapping some small amount of the two ends (Fig. 2(E)).…”

“…They enable, in principle, a Tesla Coil for global wireless transmission of electricity and high-temperature superconductors. They give rise to boson-fermion symmetries, where the non-orientable 4π symmetry are formal patterns of annular resonators with the 2π symmetries (Ballon [11], Hamilton et.al. [77]): Spinor fields arising with 2d devices.…”
