Absorptiometric Method for Determination of Cesium

Abstract

A new method is described for the indirect determination of cesium by precipitation with excess tungstosilicic acid, with subsequent development of a heteropoly blue color from the excess precipitant. The effects of several variables on the precipitation reaction and the color development were determined and optimum conditions were ascertained. Conformity to Beer's law was found for concentrations between 0.133 and 0.931 mg. of cesium per ml. The determination may be performed in the presence of limited amounts of potassium and rubidium.
