ABSCISIC ACID-INSENSITIVE 4 negatively regulates flowering through directly promoting ArabidopsisFLOWERING LOCUS Ctranscription

Abstract: Highlight FLC is the direct target of both of the transcription factors ABI4 and ABI5, and ABA inhibits floral transition by activating FLC transcription through ABI4.

“…6B), a transcriptional repressor of SOC1 which contributes to delaying flowering under drought condition (Riboni et al , 2013; Y. Wang et al , 2013; Shu et al , 2016). Since SOC1 integrates different floral pathways in the SAM (Moon et al , 2003; Wang et al , 2009; Song et al , 2012, 2014) which promote flowering under SDs we created the abi1-1 soc1-1 double mutants.…”

“…The negative role of ABA in flowering has been linked to the direct activation of FLC by ABA-stimulated bZIP transcriptional factor ABSCISIC ACID-INSENSITIVE 5 ( ABI5 ) and AP2/ERF domain-containing transcription factor ABSCISIC ACID-INSENSITIVE 4 ( ABI4 ) (Y. Wang et al , 2013; Shu et al , 2016). Such activation of FLC may account for the general reduction in FT transcript accumulation following exogenous ABA applications on leaves (Hoth et al , 2002).…”

“…This suggests that ANAC017 operates in concert with other factors that define its specificity and have not yet been identified. ABI4 further regulates plant developmental processes, such as seed germination (Finkelstein et al, 1998), flower development (Foyer et al, 2012;Shu et al, 2016), and lateral root formation (Shkolnik-Inbar and Bar-Zvi, 2010). It remains unclear if and how those programs are linked or even integrated with retrograde regulation.…”

“…However, the molecular mechanisms underlying ABA/GA antagonism are not completely elucidated. In Arabidopsis, the AP2/ERF transcription factor ABA-INSENSITIVE 4 (ABI4) is a central factor in GA/ABA homeostasis [35,36]. Also, reactive oxygen species and ascorbic acid were reported to mediate this antagonism during seed germination in rice [37].…”
